Anointing

Anointing

Original mixed media: pastel & colored pencil on pastel ground primed watercolor paper

14 x 22"

This mixed media piece is inspired by a deeply transformative dream I had after the passing of my first beloved lovebird, Sweet Baby ‘Ting (short for Anointing). He was divinely named 'Anointing' by my good friend, his first owner, because he brought me healing 'anointing', teaching me to find joy again following my sister’s passing, his loss 10 months after I adopted him was deeply impactful and left my heart heavy and full of guilt. But in the dream, I saw him flying up from the ground to meet me, his wings stirring the golden air around him. It was a vision of him alive and well in Heaven, and he was flying to greet me!  I instantly knew that he held nothing against me, but was delighted to see me - it truly turned my grief into joy! This piece commemorates that moment, symbolizes the joy and restoration of God’s creation in eternity, and is a reminder of the hope of eternal reunion.

This piece acknowledges the infinite knowledge and love God has for all His creation (Acts 15:18), celebrates the loving connection we share with His creatures, and excitedly anticipates our reunion that will find its ultimate fulfillment in Heaven, "...because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God." (Romans 8:21).  Truly, "...not one of [His precious creation] is forgotten before God." ( Luke 12:6) The dream transformed my grieving into lasting comfort and joy.
